Santa Cruz Triathlon Relays Race Report

Another highly successful day for Santa Cruz Endurance for the 3 relay teams entered. Martin Spierings exited the water in 2nd place but sprinted up the hill to transition to pass off to Jeremy Page in front of Dream Team. They were never headed from that point of the race with Jeremy cycling the 40k time trial in 1:02:07 and Adam Boothe finishing off with a 35:57 for the 10k anchor leg to win the Male relay. The Co-ed team came from behind after a 24:54 split by Samantha Forde in the 1500m swim and 1:03 from Steve Yatson on the bike. That left them in 3rd place before Rhodes Walton took the timing band and mowed down the two teams in front passing Team Geojocks with less than a mile to go with a 34:43 and another win. The female team of Kristen Van Kley, Roxanne Peralez and Jennifer Willoughby did a great job against one of the most competitive female relay team fields in years. A 26:30 and 1:08:04 from Kristen and Roxanne was backed up with a 43:32 PR for Jennifer to clinch 3rd place on the podium. Both of the teams that beat them were anchored other SCE members! Congrats to the competitors and thanks to the supporters who came out to cheer for us. Full relay results here.

Clarkson signs with Santa Cruz Endurance.

SCE’s triathlete stocks were raised considerably today when recent runner-up at the Santa Cruz Triathlon, Eric Clarkson, joined the team. Other impressive performances this season by the 27 year-old Santa Cruzan include a 6th and 4th overall in the Pacific Grove and Silicon Valley Olympic distance triathlons. We hope to be able to assist him this off-season in his ascension to the pro ranks. Welcome Eric.

Swanton Time Trial

Every first Thursday of the month in summer, 30-40 guys line their bikes up in a ditch by the road opposite a Strawberry farm not far from Davenport to compete in the Swanton Time Trial. And, yes, mostly guys. Some in cotton t-shirts, some in full sponsored bike kit, aero helmet and disc wheels. On the 6th of September, the fast spreading disease of Santa Cruz Endurance infected the event with Martin, Jeremy (on a 45x17 single speed duly noted), Will and Michael representing in a howling head wind. Results here.

Samantha Forde was mentioned in the Santa Cruz Sentinel today as the 3rd placed local at the Dirt Inspires Half Marathon.
