Clean Sweep at Big Sur Marathon Relay

Pre-Relay Rumblings from Team Fluid Santa Cruz

Some ominous results from team members of Team Fluid Santa Cruz. On April 11th Rhodes Walton won the 5k Slug Run in Santa Cruz (see press article here). Jennifer Willoughby came 2nd in the 10k version of the race. On the same day over in Marin Allison Louthan came in 2nd (11th overall!) in the 25k Muir Woods Trail Run. I came 2nd in the same race (my race report here). On April 4th, last minute addition to the team, Chris Ratliff, finished 9th in the prestigious American River 50 mile race.

The two Team Fluid Santa Cruz teams assembled to discuss how early they have to get up next Sunday morning for the Big Sur Marathon Relay and how many buses it would take to do it! Running seems like it will be the easiest part of the day.

Press Release - Team Fluid Santa Cruz at Big Sur Marathon Relay

31st March. Santa Cruz, CA. Two teams of some of the fastest runners in Santa Cruz County have been selected to compete together at the Big Sur Marathon Relay on the 26th of April. Team Fluid Santa Cruz will be fielding both Mens and Womens teams at the event which covers 26.2 miles split into 5 legs. Following the success of the team, known as Santa Cruz Endurance, at last year's Silicon Valley Half Marathon Club Challenge (1st in the women's division and 2nd in the overall division) Fluid Recovery drink based in San Luis Obispo was signed as the title sponsor.

The team was selected from online applications received on team blog and features Top 100 Wharf to Wharf finishers, marathon and ironman triathlon champions and former college cross country stars. Members of the relay teams receive free entry and transport to the event as well as uniforms and sponsor product.

Team Fluid Santa Cruz fields teams of local athletes in endurance events that have a team category or are run as a relay. Sponsors provide support to the teams covering entry fees, transport and more. Team Fluid Santa Cruz hopes to bring talented athletes together and inspire participation in endurance sports. The team is managed by triathlon coach, Martin Spierings and owner of Central Coast Running store, Adam Boothe.
